THURSDAY GRAPHICS POST!
If you were savvy, you might have noticed that in the confusion of New Year's Eve, and my excitement about the Party Post, I, err, forgot to post this last Thursday. Sorry about that!
Without further ado, here is the weekly post where members can link to their icons, wallpapers, macros, and other misc. graphics.
As always, we recommend you link to your journal, rather than posting all your icons in a single comment. A preview of a few icons/one of your wallpapers (preferably resized, or a thumbnail) is the way to go.
Punch it! ♥

Rating: G this time Mature to be safe overall
Warnings: none this time
Status: WIP
Word count: This installment - 3, 862. Total words to date: 16, 094
Summary: Jim calls him Bones. It's better then Reaper by far, but it still conjures images of death.
A/N: You guys are awesome with the reviews. In other fandoms I have not been so graciously welcomed as I have here. Thank you. It's very humbling.
EDIT: A/N (2) - To those new people who want to friend my journal, would you be so kind as to introduce yourselves at this post here? In the past, I have been a victim of 'bots so, if I don't get a introduction, you may be banned under the assumption that you are in fact, a 'bot. I don't want that to happen, as I know many of you might be lurkers. That's okay. Just let me know that you are a person, okay?

Article is nothing we haven't heard before, but the pictures make me smile because they look slightly uncomfortable but completely gorgeous. Worthington doesn't seem to be into having his picture taken at all, much less in a studio where he doesn't know what to do with his face.
And by the way, time and effort was put into making her look cute and stylish. And Worthington is wearing a Volcom hoodie. Story of my life.

( I know someone else here shares my not so secret dream that in another universe they're a seriously cute couple. )

Does anyone know a good place to get Japanese subtitle files for Japanese films etc? The DVDs I own with Japanese audio only seem to have English or Chinese subtitles. (I find old Japanese men really hard to understand without subs but don't want to use English ones!)

Hi everyone!
I'm revising for a Japanese exam I've got in the next couple of weeks (second year of university), and I was wondering if anyone could help me with a grammar point.
I've just been revising ~に対して and ~に対する。
The next point on my list is ~がAのに対して。 Unfortunately though I can't find my notes on this specific point, and I searched a bit online and couldn't find anything about it... if anyone could explain it for me, like how it is used in sentences and what it means, how it differs from に対する, etc, I would be really grateful. :D
Thank you! ♥

Hello all. :-) My boyfriend's been making clothes for himself for a while now and has been having a fine time of it! He's now branching out into making things for other people, and has put his first design on ebay here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Black-Moleskin-Sl eeveless-Jacket-GOTHIC-STEAMPUNK_W0QQite mZ320469159606QQcategoryZ3002QQcmdZViewI temQQ_trksidZp4340.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3 DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%2 52BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D10%26ps%3 D63
He's just taken a commission for one with sleeves (an extra £10 I believe) and may also be making a full length one in the near future. He'll have some other designs up soon too, so even if you don't necessarily like this particular model it's probably worth bookmarking him for future reference. :-)
I'm sure if you ask nicely he'd be able to make this in all sorts of different fabrics too!

A long while ago I believe that someone in this community posted information about a Steampunk convention in Michigan, I want to say it would be in May. Silly me, I didn't bookmark the website. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, or is part of planning said con could you let me know what the website is?

Hey, I'm translating a 7 page interview about a certain artist's early days, but I'm having trouble with a handful of sentences (mostly his bandmates being slangy, talking in Kansai-ben or both). I've typed out the whole sections for context, but the bold is the bit I'm stuck on:

This saddens me. Some of you might know of her work, she was big in the Gundam Wing fandom back in the day, and was the author of Gay Baker, a wonderfully drawn and delightfully written BL webcomic.
I didn't really know her, I was just a fan. So, sadness. :C

KFC cricket ad slammed as racist in US
Article from: The Advertiser
January 06, 2010 12:10pm
AN ad by KFC showing a man giving chicken to West Indies fans has been slammed as racist - but is it just a cultural misunderstanding?
In the "cricket survival guide" ad, an Australian fan named Mick asks viewers "Need a tip when you're stuck in an awkward situation?" after being surrounded by cheering West Indies fans.
He then shares a bucket of KFC chicken with fans around him to calm the situation.
The video has caused a massive stir in the US after it was posted on YouTube. The ad has been seen by some in the US as a reference to the racial stereotype that African Americans eat fried chicken.
User "ThunderCurls" posted the ad on the video sharing website with the title "Racist KFC advertisement?"
The description states "How do you survive a crowd of "awkward" black people? According to KFCs latest advertisement a bucket of fried chicken will do the trick."
The video has caused a lot of debate, garnering over 200,000 views and receiving over 2000 comments.
KFC Australia has acknowledged that the ad could be perceived as racist. They said the ad had been "misinterpreted by a segment of people in the US" in a statement released this morning.
"It is a light-hearted reference to the West Indian cricket team," the statement read.
"The ad was reproduced online in the US without KFC's permission, where we are told a culturally-based stereotype exists, leading to the incorrect assertion of racism.
"We unequivocally condemn discrimination of any type and have a proud history as one of the world's leading employers for diversity."
Media commentary sites in the US blasted the ad, claiming that the ad supported stereotypes, according to The Huffington Post.
On Mediabistro, Kiran Aditham writes of the ad: "Here, a flustered white guy gets out of an "awkward situation" - which in this case appears to mean being stuck in a crowd of happy, cheering black people at a sporting event - by ordering in fried chicken."
Meanwhile, Buzzfeed's Jack Shephard introduced the video by saying, "What's a white guy to do when he awkwardly finds himself in a crowd full of black folks? KFC has the answer."
____________________
Can someone please explain to me this "blacks only eat fried chicken" stereotype? Because as far as I know, EVERYONE eats fried chicken.
Not to mention, the media failed to recognise the five other "white" versions of the same advertisement. Way to go!
Aaannnddd another thing...

On the bright side, I was able to sign up for a full time Spring semester at Pellissippi on time. I already had my FAFSA filled out and there was one more paper that is already through review. Everything else checks out. (Grades, the actual FAFSA form, taxes, etc.) Wish me luck!

Pairing: Kirk/McCoy
Rating: NC-17; Art is NOT worksafe.
Word Count: 6,000
Warnings: If you're willing to read an NC-17 slash fic, there's nothing here to warn for.
Summary: The Enterprise is broken and helpless as she limps back from her battle with the Narada... and Jim finds himself broken and embarrassingly helpless, too. Bones can't fix everything, but as Jim discovers, he can fix some things surprisingly well.
Thumbnail for the art:

Notes: This was done as a gift piece for
fofomazuzu on the
happy_trekmas exchange. He asked for something sweet and a bit fluffy – not my usual style of writing, but it was fun. Originally, this wasn't supposed to be a fic.
lizardspots had been matched with his prompt, and she and I brainstormed the art together. I got an idea with a generic backstory, which Lizard turned into an amazing piece of art. That was supposed to be the only part of the exchange gift, but I decided that it needed fic to go with it because it seemed too random without the attached story. So I wrote the fic that was the backstory for the art that I'd originally described to Lizard, making this into a full collaboration from start to finish. It was a lot of fun. *grins*
Thank you to

No spoilers outside the cut, minor ones behind it. (Edit: Comments have big spoilers!)
I wish I had had some kind of a counter in my head to see how many times I said the word 'cool'. "That's so cool!" "That's just plain cool!" "That's too cool!" That's so fucking cool", etc. Seems like I was saying a phrase like that to myself every second.
I loved the details. The computer screens (? displays?) were just so damned cool, they made me fall in love with the movie and things just got better from there. I've always disliked those 'people in a giant fighting robot' animes, but man, that was just too fucking cool in the movie. The animals! Oh my god, the animals. The world-building. Second best movie in my whole life based on wow/cool factor. (First was Jurassic Park.)
A small funny bit: When we first saw the floating islands of land with the waterfall coming off it? I blinked, having seen that before. Then I laughed. 'Welcome to Nagrand!" *snicker* (Non-WoW people: It looked just like a zone in WoW.)
The movie wasn't perfect (plot-wise at least). I wish the language of the natives hadn't sounded exactly like a Native American language. The bad guy was really bad. Eh, poor-bad. He needed a ton more fleshing out (complex bad guys, please!). I disliked the ending quite a bit... though that makes it sound strong, still a really great movie.
( Minor spoilers back here )
Two last notes!
1) The movie confirmed that yes, I really have developed a fear of heights. OMG, I was gasping at some places and wanted the main character to drop down and clutch the ground and close his eyes and OMG so high! :P
2) I really don't like seeing movies in theaters. Seriously and totally don't. I'll do it for event movies like this, but in general? $16 to get in (movie and glasses only, and you had to give the glasses back). $6.50 for popcorn. (Thankfully I bought my own water.) Uncomfortable seats. No pausing the movie if you need to go to the bathroom. Too many other people there. Too much time to watch it (I got there 40 minutes early to get a good seat, then there were 20 minutes of commercials/trailers before the movie...)
So, all in all, amazingly highly recommended! Wow, just wow.
Oh! And Vel asked about the Imax aspect of it. It was just a normal movie screen (maybe a little bigger? If so, not much), but the sound was amazing. Can't say if it was amazingly bad or amazingly good. I'm rather deaf now, but bigger than that, it vibrated in my chest really disturbingly. I've never experienced anything like that before, but I did worry multiple times if such violent vibrations in your chest could trigger a heart attack. :P
